Practically every beauty brand has launched a ‘progressive tan’ lotion. Unlike self tans, these slowly build up a subtle sun-kissed colour, so you don’t suddenly look like you’ve gone from fair to footballer’s wife!
We’ve tried and tested all the creams we could get our paws on, and in the pic above are the ones that scored highest in our pole. Nivea’s Sun Kissed Skin we liked for its even colour and inoffensive odour – the initial ‘biscuity’ scent lasted only a short time on the skin, and you can choose from two shades depending on your skin tone. L’Oreal’s Nutrisummer cream has a refreshing smell and gives a pretty shimmer to skin as well a lovely golden colour, you can see results after just one application. On the higher end of the price scale, Clarins’ Radiance Plus Self-Tanning Lotion is well worth the splurge if you are feeling flush. It glides on the skin beautifully and you could fool anyone into thinking that you’ve been lounging about in the sun for weeks (even if you’ve been glued to the footie inside!)
On the black list is Dove’s Summer Glow, which you should only use if you are prepared to smell like shortbread all day!
